International Customs & Duties

A quick guide to what happens after your order ships from the U.S.

Shipping & Returns

Do I need to pay customs, taxes, or duties on my order?

Maybe! If you're ordering from outside the U.S., your local government may charge customs feesimport duties, or VAT. These charges are set by your country, not by Slowdown Studio.

Who pays these fees?

In short: you do. These charges aren’t included in your Slowdown Studio order total or shipping cost. If they apply, your local customs office or delivery courier will let you know.

We wish we could cover these charges for you, but because each country handles this differently, it’s out of our hands.

Why do I have to pay these fees?

Each country has its own rules for importing goods. These fees go toward local taxes and processing costs - nothing we benefit from directly.

What happens if I don’t pay them?

If you choose not to pay the customs fees, your order will likely be returned to us. In that case, you’ll be refunded for the item(s) minus the initial shipping cost, as well as the return and handling costs.

Any tips before ordering internationally?

Absolutely:

  • Check with your local customs office to estimate fees before ordering.
  • Consider shopping with friends to share shipping and duties (a Slowdown bundle, anyone?)
  • Keep an eye on your tracking number for any updates or customs notifications.
  • Do understand that by purchasing products from Slowdown Studio, you are agreeing to be responsible for duties and taxes incurred.
  • Here are a few guides for duties & taxes according to countries and regions below:

Australia

Here’s what to know before your order makes the trip down under:

If your total order is under $1,000 AUD, we’re required by Australian law to collect GST (Goods & Services Tax) at checkout. That means no surprises - we’ll include it in your total so it’s smooth sailing through customs.

If your order is over $1,000 AUD, things work a little differently. You might be asked to pay GST and/or customs duties when your order arrives. These charges are set by Australian Border Force and will be collected by your local delivery service. You’d be responsible for those fees before the goods can be delivered.

Canada

We don’t collect Canadian taxes (like PST, RST, GST, or HST) at checkout. Instead, you might be asked to pay them when your order arrives. Depending on where you live, your package could be subject to sales tax, customs duties, or import fees, including QST in Quebec, PST in British Columbia or Saskatchewan, and GST/HST across Canada. These are set by your local government and will be collected by the courier before delivery.

European Union

If you’re ordering from somewhere in the European Union, here’s what to keep in mind:

We don’t charge VAT at checkout, but depending on your order value, you may be charged import VAT and possibly customs duties when your parcel arrives.

For orders under €150: your local customs office will likely apply VAT before delivery.

For orders over €150: you may be charged VAT plus customs duties, depending on your country’s rules.

These fees are collected by your local delivery service and are your responsibility to pay before the order can be released.

We’d love to cover it for you… but until teleportation is a thing, this part’s out of our hands.

United Kingdom

A little heads-up before your order hops across the pond:

We don’t charge UK VAT at checkout, but you may need to pay it once your order arrives, especially if your total is under £135.

For orders under £135: UK VAT is usually collected by your local delivery provider before the parcel is released.

For orders over £135: you may be charged VAT and customs duties, depending on current UK import rules.

These charges are set by HMRC and collected by your local courier—they’re not included in your order total, and they’ll be your responsibility to pay.

New Zealand

We don’t charge GST at checkout, but you might be asked to pay it once your order lands in NZ.

For orders under $1,000 NZD: GST is generally collected by New Zealand Customs or your delivery provider before release.

For orders over $1,000 NZD: you may also be responsible for customs duties and import processing fees.

These charges are set by the New Zealand government and handled locally, they’re not included in your order total. It’s not the most exciting part of getting art delivered to your door, but we want you to be fully in the know.

Norway

We don’t collect Norwegian VAT at checkout, but it may still be applied when your parcel arrives.

For orders under 3,000 NOK: VAT is typically collected by Norwegian Customs or your local delivery provider before the package is released.

For orders over 3,000 NOK: you might also be charged customs duties, depending on what’s in your order.

These fees are set and collected locally, they’re not included in your Slowdown Studio order total and are your responsibility to pay before delivery.
