Here at Slowdown Studio we love collaborating with emerging and established artists from across the globe. We recently had the opportunity to chat with Magdalena Etchebarne (Magucha), the artist behind the new Gansos Art Print. Magucha is an Argentinian artist whose work is rooted in symbolism and intuition, the hidden meanings carried by everyday things.
Who do you think is the most exciting emerging creative in your city?
I really love the work of Azul Zorraquín. I know her personally, and she’s an incredibly creative person. She’s a photographer, but beyond photography she also creates clothing printed with her own images, makes objects, and collaborates with different artists. (@azul.zorra)
Where are your favourite places to go in your city?
I love walking around the city and observing people, all the different characters and businesses you come across. If I had to choose one specific place, it would be El Rosedal Park, where I often go to clear my head near the lagoon and the geese.

What advice would you give to a younger version of yourself when you were starting out in art?
I would tell myself to be braver about sharing my art with others.
What are you listening to in your studio at the moment?
I love music. In my family, we always listened to all kinds of music growing up. I enjoy going on Spotify and starting a radio station from a song I like, which then leads me to new songs and artists I’ve never heard before. I love discovering new music. Some artists I’ve been listening to lately are Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso, Nathy Peluso, Rosalía, Queen, and Neil Frances.

What inspired your design for this latest print design?
The geese were my main inspiration. I find them beautiful and funny animals, and they also carry a lovely symbolism of teamwork, togetherness, home, character, and love. My husband and I are very fond of geese. In fact, before we got married, we took part in a ritual in a park where there were geese around us.
What's your favorite way to slow down?
My favorite way to slow down is to drink mate on my couch while watching a series or a movie, doing Reiki, or spending time in the park.

What's the most memorable book you've read in the last few years?
I’m not a big reader, but the last book I read, this past summer, was Our Share of Night by Mariana Enríquez. I really enjoy suspense and horror stories.
What has been the happiest/most rewarding moment of your art career?
During the pandemic, I made a series of T-shirts featuring my artwork, and so many people bought them. People really loved them, and it made me incredibly happy to see my art being worn by others.

How does living in your city influence your work? Is there anything about your city that has defined how or what you create?
Absolutely. I was born in Buenos Aires, and it’s my home. It’s a deeply inspiring city, from its people to its streets, parks, traditions, and stories.
What are you most excited/looking forward to this year?
I’m currently working on a project that combines my artwork with Tarot. I also read Tarot professionally, and the world of symbols and the meanings behind things has always been a huge source of inspiration for me.
